Photos I Love

There must be something magic about Helene's camera. If there is a photo she has taken I love it. And if there is a photo she has taken of my children, I love it even more.
Even if it's an out take. I could look at them all day long. I love every face. Every hand, and every foot. I am a sucker for these little people, and so very grateful for kind friends who's marvelous talents can capture them for me.
If you get enough out takes, you might just stumble upon perfection. And these are perfect to me.

My three

I couldn't feel more lucky.

Whisper Talk

The kids love to 'whisper talk' after being put to bed.
The perfect excuse to prolong playtime before falling to sleep.
Whispers and giggles is all I can hear, and lots of silly time is all I can see.
I can't imagine the memories they are making. They're world revolves around one another, and they love it that way. So lucky to be best friends.

Out to Peggy's Cove

For Mother's Day Scotlin gave me one of his beloved hot wheels with a lesson on how to steer, and load cars onto it, and then told me he wanted to marry me about ten times.
I think my life is now forever complete.
Love this dude man. My BFF.

Getting Ready for School

Miley is such a lover of learning.
She will soon be accepting the nobel role of being an elementary school student.
Lately she has embraced this calling with great practice.
She soaks up her letters and numbers at school, and is constantly reading, writing, learning and drawing for us at home.
She gives herself self proclaimed 'work books' and 'homework' and is energetically eager to do more, more, more!
She carries her books with her where ever she goes, always ready to whip out her pencil and soak in more.
She flips through her work pages with speed, and fills each book from front to back. Never is a coloring book finished until it is colored on every page.
I am sure I was never this child.
Maybe this is why she astounds me.
Maybe it's just part of the remarkable journey of watching your first born.
Whatever it may be, It's exciting for both of us.
Her recent drive is a flawless depiction of her personality.
She is keen on learning, and doing her best.
Challenging herself, and meeting new accomplishments puts a smile on her face.
And I couldn't be more happy for my girl.

Cape Breton Island

We recently took a small family vacation to the lovely and beautiful island of Cape Breton.
Jacalyn grew up in Cape Breton right on the water, where her mother (Jean) still lives.
Jean visits Halifax often to see her family, and we always spend time together when she is in town.
I have been to Cape Breton on my own when serving in my stake calling, but we have always wanted to travel back as a family. Jacalyn knew how great it would be to get there also, and has always wanted us to go. She thought of a wonderful weekend getaway for us, and kindly extended the invitation to have us come and stay with her mother.
We were thrilled at the chance to visit Jean in Cape Breton, and even more excited to have Jacalyn and the girls coming with us to show us around. Like a dream come true for our kids!
Jean was so very inviting. We felt comfortable and welcome in her home.
We drove up together, enjoying the ride (but forgetting that Scotlin gets car sick. Won't be forgetting that in the future).

All signs in gaelic~
We traveld to the small town of Port Hood. Drove all along the scenic Ceilidh (Kaylee) Trail to Jean's home.

Once we arrived we stood in the backyard admiring the view. We quickly grabbed some lunch and then headed to the boardwalk along the beach. It was a windy day on the water, but the kids didn't seem to mind. The kids blew bubbles, and combed the beach for sea shells and sea glass as we walked along the sand.

We enjoyed visiting with Jacalyn as we walked, hearing all her stories about the Island. It was a wonderful afternoon watching the children play, and taking in the sunshine and fresh sea air.
Yes, we are on the beach. But don't be deceived... it is cold!!

We stayed for a long time taking in every view.
After the beach Jacalyn took us for a drive so we could see more of the scenic coast line and neighboring towns.
I kept imagining what the view would look like when the trees are green, or even in the fall. Even without the leaves, the views were spectacular. There were a few places where we turned the corner to overlook the sea, and the view took our breath away.

We soon entered the town of Inverness. Unique for being the home to the only authentic Canadian Links golf course. (Something Justin has only talked about wanting to see for years)
The course was closed, but just about to open for the season, so we couldn't go down to take the best pictures. We did the best we could standing on the outskirts.
It was easy to see why the natural rolling hills right along the oceanside would be the ideal and most prestigious place to play. It was quite a sight.
For me, it was the wild Canadian Geese that caught my eye, as well as the unique and interesting homes built along the waterfront.

After a great day, we came home to let the kids play together again while the sun went down. As much as we loved taking in the scenery of Cape Breton, we certainly didn't have to drive far. Jean had the very best view right out the back window. Jacalyn has always told me about growing up right on the ocean, but it's something you can't fully appreciate until you are there. It was an incredibly beautiful place. So small, simply lived on, and quiet. It's own kind of paradise.

The girls were so kind to help out with the kids so much while we were visiting, and I know the kids had a ball together. I never worried about them the whole time. Not for one minute. They were doing all the things they love all at once, and they had a marvelous time.

We were so glad we ended up seeing Cape Breton after all, and before we move away. It will be another memory we will always cherish. A favorite one for me, as I so dearly love Jacalyn and her family.
When we got home Miley was quick to begin sorting through her sea shell collection.
memories of a splendid time.
