Get Ready For It: ONE MILLION PICS OF THE KIDS IN COSTUME - HALLOWEEN 2010!

The Ballerina
and
The Bat

*****

Halloween weekend is here, and we are already partying it up.
The weekend started out with one of our
NEW FAVORITE TRADITIONS.
Parading the kiddies through the Dental School to visit their Dad.

I tried to show up a little early, so we could see Dad without having too many melt downs since our visit was right during Nap time. Arriving a bit before Justin was out of class gave the other students ample time to pump Miley full of sugar. It didn't take long until she was happy.

We loved visiting dad and school, and giving him the chance to show off his little ones. We love our dental family!!

First Timers

Who's ready for local anesthesia?

This week they guys were learning to do the freezing, or numbing of the mouth, and practicing on each other.

They mastered three different techniques that day which means he came home with the top half of his mouth completely numb.
He did pretty good for doing something he had never done before, and it looks like they had a good time too.

We`re so glad when Daddy comes home!

Ahhhhhhh.... The weekend. Once Friday rolls around we are all ready for a little bit more of DAD. Friday afternoons are when the melt downs begin. it`s when I start to hear `I want daddy! I want daddy!` it`s been a long week without him.  All I want to say back is `So do I! So do I!` Saturday is finally here, and so today we had wonderful, and much needed quality time with dad. Hooray!
We couldn`t even get cleaned up this morning before the play doh was out. Miley was most excited about the play doh rings and bracelets daddy made for her to wear.

The play doh princess crown was a big hit too.
The little Prince got a crown too. Go Dooey!... Number 1! Number 1! Number ! Number 1! Number 1!

After naps, the kids were treated to happy meals at `Mc Donalds House`. This is a real treat, since it dosen`t happen very offen. I didn`t get many pictures there. The kids were excited about their trick or treat buckets from their happy meals, but kind of sad they were not able to play on the play place because of the rain, so...
Dad brought them home for a little movie night. They were able to watch  Moster`s Inc. together. Miley was really excited to be watching her first real big girl movie!

We also got  to spend the day with two really great friends, so we were excited about that too.
I had to throw this picture of the backyard in because the changing leaves are so beautiful. It has really turned cold though. I took Miley for a walk this morning, and wished the whole time I had my ear muffs! We are getting excited for all of the halloween festivities going on next week, but for now, we`re just glad daddy is home, and trying to enjoy every minute we have with him here!

Play Happy

Sheesh. We`ve been busy. I am finding more time on my hands as the kids get bigger, so we have been able to fill that extra time getting out of the house. Feeling like I can get out of the house more is a great feeling, but we love being home too. Whether it`s playing at home or on the go, these two are always having a good time. Especially if they`re together.

I wasn`t kidding when I said she is obsessed with putting things on her head. It`s not an uncommon sight to find Miley busily, and happily playing with toys with a basket on her head, or hear her laugh histerically at Scotlin with something she has stratigically placed on top of his head. Her item of choice is a sippy cup lid she`ll swipe as I unload the dishwasher. Scotlin will go crawling by with a lid on top of his head for half  the morning.
Scotlin is turning out to be quite the little dare devil. He has mastered the stairs, and if the coast is clear he is on the move! He can make it 4 or 5 steps up just while I am chasing after him. The safety gates  are coming very much in handy these days. I remember thinking about how fun it will be when the two of them are chasing after each other, and Scotlin is keeping up with Miley and giving her a run for her money... Now, I have to stop and realize that time has come!

These two aren`t content to play unless they are on top of eachother. Everytime the weekend rolls around I feel like I need to reintroduce Justin to his children. They change soooo quickly. Towards the end of the week when they start to get really wound up, and excited to be with their dad, the house can get loud. Miley will be tearing around, twirling, spinning, singing, hosting a talk show... and Scotlin will be right on her trail, following her lead. His every move will make her squeel and giggle, and he`ll do the same. Their Dad will comment `they are WILD!` And I`ll just simple smile and nod, because he has no idea how wild.
The very best perscription to keep the kids happy is a routine with scheduled play time. I started a weekly play group so we can have a chance to visit with other mom`s and play with other kids too. This past week we played in the children`s section of the bookstore. Miley ran back and forth bringing me book after book as we sat and read together on a bean bag in a cozy little corner. Afterwards we colored, and played with the train table. Miley loved this cash register. She made me sit on the other side of this table. Demanding, `come on mom. Give me the monies.` She loved the giant tea cup, Olivia dolls, bracelets, and necklaces.
She was having a ball. Scotlin had fun too. Mainly just hung out eating his grapes. He has recently earned himself the title of `The Grape-O-nator`...that deserves it`s own post completely. Trust.
No other outings compare to our favorite... the playground. Everytime I put Miley down for a nap she says to me `...and when I wake up, we`ll go to the PLAYGROUND!`
Nothing beats it.
I couldn`t get over how much Scotlin loved the slide this time. He climbed the stairs on his own, smiling and giggling the whole time. When he`d get to the top, he would find his way onto his belly, and go down head first. I`ve always got my eye on this little dare devil. He keeps me on my toes. Literally. Even though getting out of the house with the kids on my own is a little bit more work, it is a whole lot of fun!

Happiest Boy.
He loved whatching Miley slide down too. He`d smile up at her, while she`s squeel bak down to him.

We were spoiled to have Helene take 1 yr and 2 yr old photos of the kids this afternoon.
I am still trying to adjust to the fact that Scotlin is a 1 yr old. It just seems weird. But, he sure does act like it, so their is no mistaking it! He had his year check up this week + 5 needles :(
All of us had our flu shots as well. Miley was excited because the nurse gave her a sticker. As we were driving home she continued to thank me for taking her to see the dr.
`Thank you for going to see the dr. mom. I`m not sick anymore. ALLLL better!`
She has come up with some clever things to say this week, and is on a roll with trying to negotiate her consequences for misbehaving.
She cried in the tub about getting her hair washed. I told her if she didn`t stop crying she wouldn`t get to watch her favorite cartoon after her bath. She bawled the whole time, so I told her I was sorry, no cartoon now. After She was clean and dry she began the negotiation.... `I`m not crying now. I can go downstairs and watch tooners!`
She is something else these days.
I love the way she will get down close to Scotlin`s face and say sweetly `Hi handsome!`
She`s a very sweet sister. That part hasn`t changed.

Celebrating Scotlin

My emotions are close to the surface today as I think back to Scotlin`s Birthday, and think about how much he means to me. We are so grateful for him, and delighted to celebrate him today.

No one loves birthday`s more than Miley, and so she made a great little helper this week as we prepared to celebrate Scotlin`s happy day. Decorating sure was fun. Her eyes got bigger with every banner and balloon. She understood what was going on, which means she knew exactly what was coming next... Happy Day Cake. If Happy Day Cake is real, it is her 2 year old reason for living.
Somewhere in the past year it occured to me Scotlin had a special facination and interest in cows, so I knew early on I wanted to throw him a cow themed first birthday party. Justin was kind enough to go through the house and take a few pictures before the guests arrived.

Scotlin was our little cowboy for the night. He got to ride his `Cow Cow`and wear real cowboy boots that were his daddy`s when he was a baby. We invited our Halifax family to join us. I was completely floored, and honestly touched at how many guests came to support and love our little boy.
Scotlin even had a little piece of family from home. Papa Al and Grammy Chel sent him this push and ride toy. BOTH kids were really excited about that!
Mom helped Dooey open his gifts. Scotlin is pretty unanimated, but we knew he was happy and excited. He is not one for a big crowd. He was acting pretty shy, and felt most comfortable with his binki in his mouth. I tried taking it out a few times, and he would get really shy and try to put it right back in.
He is feeling pretty cool to have his own hockey stick. This little Canuck is starting young! Miley thinks it`s the perfect stick to whack him on the head with, so it`s put away for right now. Maybe we will get it out for a little hockey game while sister is sleeping.

After opening gifts we were ready to sing happy birthday and dive into some happy day cake.
This house was pack full of our friends. I am always amazed to be in the same room with so many wonderful people. I felt overwhelmed with gratitude for their support. This was only half the crowd! There were many more in the kitchen and basement. I LOVE having company!

Scotlin was not too sure what to do with this cake.
Miley helped him out by taking the lead. After all, this was the moment she had been waiting for.
She probably took 12 bites to his 1.

Still not sure about all of this, but getting into it a little more...

Sharing...

Her very own piece, all to herself!
Scotlin with `the girls.`Our adorable neighbors who are as sweet as pie. I hope my kids will be as sweet and polite as these girls someday. The girls helped me serve cake and ice cream to everyone. Tori kept Miley happy the entire party. I love these sweet girls!
Scotlin happy after presents, birthday cake and friends. And More Miley `cheese`face... Oh man.
Scotlin was more comfortable by the end of the party and started crusing around and playing with his toys.
A big thank you to all of our friends who came out to support our little cowboy, and make his day special.
Happy birthday to our 1 year old boy!
