The Voice of the Moon

One of the greatest blessings we get to enjoy while living here in Nova Scotia is living near the Atlantic Ocean. No one can argue the majesty, mystery, and wonder of the ocean, and no matter how many times I pass by it in a day, that feeling never changes.

As Stake Youth Leaders, we thought it would be nice to take the Priest and Laural group from our stake on a hike out to one of the popular look out points of the Bay of Fundy. Our hope was that this outting would spark inside them a greater appreciation for this glorious valley in which they live.

We headed out to Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia ( pictured above ).
( I literally took this picture on my way home. Look out points such as these make me wish I had a nicer camera! I hope you can somewhat appreciate the beauty...) Where, the night before we met to play games, and then spent the night, at our respective billets, to begin our hike early the next morning.
With little sleep, and 5 Young Women Laurals packed in my car, we headed out bright an early on our way to the Bay...

Good Morning Sunrise!

The highest tides in the world occur in this basin.
The high tides, and low tides of the earth meet at this exact location, split, and continue in opposite directions around the globe.
It is the gravitation of the moon and sun that raises the tides, as well as the energy from the earth spinning on it`s axis. The high tide comes in with an enormous roar as massive amounts of water flows into a 5 mile basin, and then exactly 3 hours later, the rushing waters clam, and then begin flowing in the opposite direction.
Truly Incredible!
Here, at Cape Split, the most awesome display of the tides occur on our planet, and it is known as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.

Early this morning we watched as the high tides came into the Bay.
All the boats at the dock that morning were sitting on the bare ocean floor, and by the time we left that afternoon they were again floating high in the water, far above where they had been only hours before. ( So wished I had a picture of this!!!!!)

Here are the Priests and Laurals from the NS Stake all geared up and ready to head off and hike Cape Split.

We were blessed with a gorgious day to enjoy the fall colors and crisp air. I loved all of the views from the trial. I love to hike, and now I can say I especially love to hike along the oceanside!

All along the way we could hear the roar of the Ocean Currents we were hiking towards. Because it is the moon`s powerful force affecting the Earth that so greatly influences the currents, the load roar that is emitted from the cliffshore title waves has been nicknamed
`The Voice of the Moon.`

After a beauiful 2 hour hike through the trees, we made it to our final destination to overlook The Highest Tides on the Planet!
The flow from this channel equals the combined flow of all the rivers and streams on Earth!
Wow! It was truly incredible. So gorgeous!

The water was turbulent, constantly moving and flowing into the channel. The roar was loud and powerful!
I loved the view, and I felt grateful to be here!
I stood out on the edge of these jagged cliffs to take this picture and was instantly having flashbacks of Dad driving us like a lunatic near the edges of the Grand Canyon! :)
View from farther back... that rock ahead was the cliff side I was standing on for the pictures.
No, I didn`t lay down with my head over the side... I know Dad was wondering!

Me! Enjoying Cape Split NS!!
( Just says I look like a mini Sharron in these pictures.)

A few from our group that day,  taking a break for lunch.

Mini Sharron again, just loving the lookout over Cape Split!

When everyone was gathered together again I had the opportunity of giving a spiritual message for the youth to take with them after spending the weekend together.
I talked to them about the strong worldly currents that threaten to seperate us from our families, and from the presence of our Heavenly Father. I shared with them parts from Elder Bennett`s talk at the last General Conference, when he told the story of the Powerful Ocean Currents that nearly took his life. We talked about our goals for Eternal Life, and I encouraged them to listen to the voice of the Prophet. I explained how the Prophet and Apostles today stand as our life gaurds at a watch tower, and how they can see the dangerous currents the threaten to sweep us away. I entrusted them to seek the lighthouse of the Lord, and promised them that he would be there to help them through the storms life will inevitably bring.

My wish was that the spirit would speak soflty to their hearts as they looked out at the raging current, and I hoped that today would plant a small seed that could eventually grow into a testimony of the majesty and power of the Creator of this beautiful World. We have been given so much of it to enjoy.

It has been a plesure being able to serve the Youth here in Nova Scotia. Their perspective of the world has strengthed my testimony, and has helped to expand my horizons as well. I am grateful for thier strength. I truly think they are so strong, and I believe in them with all my might.

Hiking Cape Split has been one of my favorite destinations here in NS.
I loved learning of the story behind this natural creation, and I loved witnessing the true wonder of this world!
