Growing up fast? They've got it down pat.
My head strong two year old running the show? That's a literal laugh.
My baby boy turning one in a week? Unbelievable to me.
I've had time to wrap my head around how fast Scotlin's first year has flown by. A couple weeks ago I would have told you I was sincerely sad to see him turn 1 year. I'll be the first to admit that I want to keep him my baby forever. That kind of luck is not on my side, so I have had no choice than to accept the fact. Now that it has sunk in, I am excited for my little guy. He is well on his way to being a busy 1 year old, and he is so happier than ever, and just like any mother, there is nothing I want more for him.
Mr. Man climbing the stairs at the playground. He is such a little BOY. My petite little girl wouldn't go near the stairs until she was 19 months old. Scotlin is all over it. And I love to see him reach these milestones.
The only word he has been saying with meaning is "Uh-OH" until recently when he added an adorable new sound: "Doo, Doo..." If you know my Dewey-Doo, and know how much we DOO-DOO him to death you can imagine the smiles and laughter that he receives when he speaks the slightest little "Doo, Doo." Dewey doesn't have too much to say, but still manages to communicate all of his wants and needs very well.
The Mi Mi...
Always hamming it up for the camera.
She'll find the camera case, remove the camera, and go around the house asking each of us to pose for a picture. If I have the camera she'll ask me to take her picture and then ask to see it. "See Mi Mi's?"
The thing I love most about Miley at this age are the funny things she thinks up and says on her own. The kind of things that catch me by surprise or make me think "Where did you get that from?" She is an absolute blast. So helpful, and obedient, yet very independent and head strong.
A loving sister. ALWAYS wanting to maul Scotlin with her loves.
Some of my favorite things she has said lately:
Classic phrases: answering a yes or no question with "Yes-sir-ree mom" or "I guess so..." Telling me she's "Not so good" after falling down.
She is really good at saying her prayers, folding her arms and closing her eyes. We started preparing lunch as morning session of conference ended. When Miley heard the benediction on the computer she set the example for all of us by telling us to fold our arms and close our eyes. She monitored until the prayer was over. "Close your eyes Dewey..." she'd instruct mid prayer.
We were at a friends house for breakfast last week where someone offered a prayer for the food. Mi's had her arms folded, head bowed, and eyes closed, and was sitting on my lap. As soon as the prayer started she looked up at me and softly whispered "Hi mom. I miss you. Happy Birthday Mom."
Driving home last week I turned up the radio to one of my favorite songs and tried to sing and actually sound good. I was loud. I was trying... From the back seat I hear "No more singing mom."
I stopped for a minute and then started up again. "stop singing mom. No more singing that song mom." I knew I sucked all along, but though surely my kids wouldn't mind. Hahaaaa.. wrong.
In the kitchen. She comes to me and says "I be hungry for grapes."
She went through all the kitchen drawers, and was busy playing with measuring cups and spoons. I took the rolling pin out of the play area, and she quickly insisted "I need to hit Dewey on the head with that rolling pin, mom." Excuse me? You want to? "I need to hit dewey on the head with that rolling pin, mom. yes-sir-ree, mom."
Even though she loves him, she has a strange obsession to put any and everything she can on his head. Please explain.
