The Final Days of Summer

Truthfully, it seemed like our summer days came to an end long ago. Now, we have a mixture of comfortable fall days and cool nights, along with humidity and rain due to the September hurricane season. But before it all changed we were able to enjoy the last days of summer in this, our final summer in Nova Scotia.

Helene and I were feeling a bit brave and ambitious one morning, and decided together we would trek our belly`s and our crew out to the valley for one last blueberry pick in the best bushes.
What we didn`t know was how perfect the day would truly be.

Being with Helene and her son Kingston makes for a pretty perfect day as it is, but in addition to their stellar company our kids were perfect angles (except for the car rides), amazing little blueberry pickers, we didn`t get lost, the day was GORGEOUS outside, and we took our time soaking up the beauty of Annapolis Valley-- complete with ice cream and animals!
The ONLY part of this day I regret was getting sick on the car ride home, and showing Helene WAY too many of my true colors.
Too many blueberries I guess...

This is what it looks like on a perfect end of summer day in Nova Scotia...

The kids were seriously SO GOOD at helping pick this year. They filled their buckets! They took this job for real, and they were the best little berry pickers I`ve ever seen.
The berries were amazing this year too. So blue, plump, and perfectly ripe. Every bush was FULL. It didn`t take long to gather the goods.
The best berries we`ve had in Nova Scotia hands down. And their taste was just as amazing as I remembered. No other blueberry in the world could compare. I am sure of it. ;)

Not too bad of a stash there! We shared these berries with our neighbors and still had plenty for weeks!! We were sad dad couldn`t join us this time, so we made sure to pick plenty for his favorite blueberry shakes! :)

After the bushes we decided to head to the farm market for a little lunch. It was the perfect place to stop, and bask in more of this pleasant day.
The kids were treated to ice cream, which they intern treated dozens of fish and ducks.
And just down the path we were able to feed goats and bunny`s, ride bikes, and play in the sand. We were all having a dream come true.
I loved this part of the day. Just sitting underneath the shade, wathcing the kids play, talking with Helene. Everytime the cool breeze would come through I would remember that our sunny days were numbered, and that fall was soon on it`s way. I was so glad we took advantage of this gorgeous day, and spent it all together.
