Mother's Day

On Mother's day weekend I was able to spend the day hiking with my two oldest kiddos.
I took them to all of my favorite places I loved as a kid.
Miley and Scotlin LOVED the outing and were on best behavior the whole day!
A slurpee stop on the way home made things right next to perfect. ;)

On the trails we did a lot of talking. The kids kept asking where the different paths would lead, or what would happen if we got off of the trail. Our conversation quickly turned into an object lesson about the following the Prophet and listening to the spirit.
They asked me if going off the trail would be like 'going astray...' and I told them that was exactly right. I explained the dangers to the right and to the left of the trail every time they asked what was beyond the path. To the left was thick forest and wild animals. To the right was a raging river. Staying on the path helps us get where we are going safely. I explained that it's the same as the Prophet leading the way for us today. He knows the dangers to our left and to our right, and helps us to stay on the path we should follow.
Before long the kids were breaking into song.. follow the Prophet, don't go astray.. ;)
These young inquisitive minds already have the light of truth in their hearts and minds. I am lifted by their purity and innocence by being near them each day.

I feel so very blessed and grateful to be a mother. I could never fully put it into words. Having children teaches me more about life and learning then could ever be taught. Life is constantly put into a beautiful perspective because of these precious souls I get to look after and attend to each day. I cherish my role and my position.

Later, I laid in bed with Scotlin playing our game of 'what's your favorite..' I asked him what was his favorite thing to do outside and he answered 'hiking with mom.' :) Miley referenced our hike many times as well through sweet notes and cards. It was clear that this day was memorable to each of them. I'll never take for granted precious, undivided time with my children. I love being outdoors enjoying this beautiful world Heavenly Father has created for us. And there is no other little people I would rather be enjoying it with.

Happy Mother's Day
