Amidst the Joy

Our Fallen Soldier.
If we visit this building it is with knots in our stomachs, and with tears in our eyes. In this building, and particularly the 5th floor, we do not have fond memories.

Earlier this week we were out to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa Prince. The next Day Grandpa suffered a terrible fall, and now our strong, courageous, tender, intelligent, smart, handsome Grandfather, Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Leader lies still in a coma.

The flood gates of every emotion has opened. Shock and horror, turned to grief and pain. Hope and optimism replaced fear, and unconditional love and gratitude has now entered into our hearts.

We are ever aware of the portal each of us must pass in this life in order to enter into the next. We have always known, but now more fully appreciate, that every day is a gift. Family is, and will always be the most important thing in this life, and throughout the eternities to come.

It's so heartbreaking to see and feel the pain associated with these circumstances. But, it is beautiful to see and feel the love and strength our family has for our Grandfather, and for one another as members gather by his bedside. We want to hold his hand, kiss his head, and perform his favorite songs in hopes he will open his eyes, and rise up the man we knew.

The man we knew would want us together. Finding peace and comfort in one another's talents.
Our Grandfather is the reason we come. To honor him, and show him how much we love him, respect him, and how grateful we are for his example, leadership, legacy, and never faltering devotion to our family. Can we ever show enough gratitude in return for our heritage, and the blessings of this beautiful family?

It is only in these efforts. By coming together. Living our lives in such a way that he would be proud. Showing him that we are here for one another, and that we appreciate every day he is still here with us.

We won't take this family for granted. We will remember the gifts we are given, and use them for good.

We are always hoping for the best outcome, and grateful in the meantime for the borrowed time to join together in love and concern for our beloved Grandfather.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandpa. I'm not really sure what words to say however, I know the knots you feel when entering that hospital, even that exact floor. Its all too familiar to me. I sincerely hope and pray that his outcome will be better than ours was. If you need to talk (or even vent) don't hesitate to email or call me- I can actually say I know what you're going through and it really sucks. I'm glad that you are with your family during this rough time.

Much love,

Steph
